Atuabo gas plant to shut down for two weeks for critical maintenance

The Ministry of Energy and Green Transition has announced a two-week shutdown of the Atuabo Gas Processing Plant in the Western Region for scheduled maintenance, aimed at boosting efficiency and ensuring long-term operational safety. In a statement issued on Monday, August 11, the Ministry said the shutdown, requested by the Ghana National Gas Company Ltd., will take place from August 16 to August 30, 2025. During the period, gas supply from the facility will be suspended to allow for comprehensive inspections, repairs, and upgrades to critical systems.

According to the Ministry, the maintenance works are part of the government’s commitment to guaranteeing the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the plant, which plays a central role in the country’s energy supply chain. To avert any disruptions, the Ministry has collaborated with key power sector stakeholders to implement contingency measures, including the use of alternative fuel sources to sustain stable electricity generation nationwide.

“The Ministry reaffirms its unwavering commitment to maintaining a reliable power supply at all times,” the statement read, assuring that regular updates will be provided on the progress of the maintenance works.
