The Ghana Highway Authority (GHA) has announced a temporary lane reduction on the north-south bound carriageway of the Madina-Accra road, as well as on the opposite side at the Tetteh Quarshie Interchange. This reduction will take effect on Sunday, June 22, 2025, and is expected to last for four months. The purpose of this lane reduction is to facilitate the construction of a central pier, which is part of the expansion works for the Tetteh Quarshie Interchange Bridge and the extension of lanes on the Tema-Accra motorway.
A statement issued by the GHA on Thursday, June 19, emphasised that the lane reduction on the Madina to Accra section is crucial for providing a safe working space for construction personnel and ensuring the safety of all road users. The GHA, acting on behalf of the Ministry of Roads and Highways, seeks to inform the public and all road users about these upcoming traffic management arrangements as part of the ongoing construction works on the Accra-Tema Motorway and Extensions Project, which spans 19.5 kilometres.
“To facilitate central pier construction works for the expansion of the Tetteh Quarshie Interchange Bridge, the number of lanes on the North-South bound carriageway (Madina to Accra direction) and vice versa will be temporarily reduced from four (4) lanes to three (3),” it added. The statement urged motorists to exercise caution, follow directional signs and cooperate with traffic management officials throughout the duration of the work. “For further information, don’t hesitate to get in touch with the Public Affairs Division via WhatsApp at 055 162 2244.
