A bus transporting passengers from Bawku to Bolgatanga, accompanied by a military escort, came under attack by unidentified gunmen at Bazua in the Binduri district on Monday afternoon. The exact number of casualties from the attack is still unclear. However, the subsequent chaos resulted in the tragic death of a man, who was crushed by a speeding military patrol vehicle that was en route to Bazua as backup in response to the assault.
The incident comes on the heels of another tragedy in the region—the killing of a woman and her two young daughters in the early hours of Sunday at Tensungo, a suburb of Bawku. There are fears the tensions in the volatile Upper East region town could be rising again following these latest attacks.
