Parliament approves Omane Boamah as Defence Minister-designate

Parliament has approved Dr. Edward Omane Boamah’s nomination as the Minister-Designate for Defence. This decision follows a debate and the adoption of the ninth report by the Appointments Committee. While the Appointments Committee unanimously recommended Dr. Omane Boamah for the position, Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin raised concerns during the discussion of the report. He accused the Clerk of the Committee of omitting some key submissions from the nominee in the report.

The Speaker, Alban Bagbin, condemned the attack on the committee clerk and urged the use of appropriate channels to address such concerns. This statement follows Parliament’s approval on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, of Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah as Minister-designate for Lands and Natural Resources, along with three regional ministers-designate. The approval enables the nominees to officially assume their respective roles.

The newly approved regional ministers-designate are:

Tia Ibrahim – North East Region

Dr. Frank Amoakohene – Ashanti Region

Akamugri Atanga Donatus – Upper East Region

Their approval follows a thorough vetting process, during which members of the House assessed their qualifications, experience, and suitability for their respective positions.

The newly appointed ministers-designate are expected to spearhead development initiatives in their regions, working in collaboration with local authorities to implement government policies and drive socio-economic progress.
