UG-Senior Staff Association and FUSSAG suspend strike

The Senior Staff Association, Universities of Ghana (SSA-UoG) and the Federation of University Senior Staff Association of Ghana (FUSSAG) have suspended their ongoing strike action, effective Wednesday, October 16. This decision comes after an emergency meeting held on Monday, October 14, 2024, during which the associations received a formal letter from the government addressing key demands.

The letter indicated that the government had approved the new rates for the Vehicle Maintenance Allowance (VMA) and Off-Campus Allowance for eligible members of the associations. In addition, the National Executive Committees of the associations announced that the suspension of the strike would allow for further engagement with the government to finalise negotiations on the Conditions of Service (COS), which were already underway.

The NEC also emphasized that other issues highlighted in the original strike notice, including the migration of the University of Media, Arts and Communication (UNIMAC) onto the Universities Pay Structure, are being actively addressed.

These negotiations are to be resolved within a two-week period, as outlined in the Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) signed on October 2, 2024. The associations urged their members to remain calm and resilient while the leadership continued to engage with the government to ensure the fulfilment of their legitimate claims and concerns.
