President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has established a five-member ad hoc ministerial committee to engage stakeholders in assessing the government’s efforts to address illegal mining activities, commonly known as galamsey. In recent times, galamsey has gained notoriety, leading to calls from various unions and associations for President Akufo-Addo to declare a state of emergency to provide sufficient time to tackle this issue.
Information Minister Fatimatu Abubakar issued a notice on Friday, September 13, announcing the National Security Minister, Albert Kan-Dapaah, as the chairman of the committee to be assisted by four other ministers.

On the instruction of the President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, an ad-hoc Ministerial committee has been set up to engage all stakeholders to assess the government’s efforts in dealing with illegal mining in Ghana.
The five-member committee is led by the
- National Security Minister, Hon. Albert Kan-Dapaah
Other members of the committee are:
- Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Hon. Samuel A. Jinapor
- Minister for Defense, Hon. Dominic Nitiwul
- Minister for Employment, Labour Relations and Pensions, Hon. Ignatius Baffour Awuah
- Minister for information, Fatimatu Abubakar
