Tema Port, ECG leadership must answer for missing containers – Majority Leader

The Majority Leader, Mahama Ayariga, has stated that the management of Tema Port and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) should be held accountable for the missing containers owned by ECG. This assertion follows reports that over 1,300 containers filled with essential equipment belonging to ECG have gone missing at Tema Port.

During a tour of aluminium smelting facilities in Shai-Osudoku on Friday, March 28, authorities discovered several coils of stolen ECG cables. These cables, which were components of missing containers, had been melted down into blocks and further processed into aluminium rods for export. Speaking in Parliament on that same day, Mahama Ayariga emphasized that those responsible must be held accountable.

“Mr. Speaker, this country must change. I’m happy that the minister [Energy and Green Transition] has promised to go to the root of this matter, and he has the full support of this House to hold all those who were involved in this exercise accountable, from the leadership of ECG to the leadership of the Tema Port.

“And those who specifically stole the containers out of the port should also be held accountable. Over the years, companies have been exporting aluminium products. We need to investigate them, where have they been sourcing their aluminium products. The Majority Leader asserted.
