I doubt we’ll have Deputy Regional ministers – Kwakye Ofosu

Spokesperson for President John Dramani Mahama who is also Minister-designate for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu has said President Mahama will not appoint Deputy Regional Ministers. He stressed that President Mahama is committed to running a lean but efficient government of 60 ministers.

“I doubt we’ll have Deputy Regional ministers,” he said on the Key Points on TV3 on Saturday, January 25. Kwakye Ofosu further stated that Ghanaians have accepted the resolve of President John Dramani Mahama to run a lean government. Drawing a comparison between the first Akufo-Addo administration which had 120 ministers, he noted that the Mahama government would perform well despite the small size because the Akufo-Addo administration performed poorly irrespective of its large size.

“Ghanaians have accepted that we will have the leanest and most efficient government,” he said on the Key Points on TV3 on Saturday, January 25. “These are some of the ways the president can save money and get the job done and by and large Ghanaians have accepted this, he added.

Akufo-Addo had a large size government but delivered poor results, the Member of Parliament for Abura Asebu-Kwamankese further stated. For his part, a Professor at the University of Ghana, Ransford Gyampo told all the appointees of President John Dramani Mahama to be visionary in carrying out their mandate.

He asked them to set higher standards and not repeat the mistakes made by the previous Akufo-Addo administration. Speaking on the Key Points on TV3 on Saturday, January 25, he said ” I will urge the appointees to be visionary in all that they do. “Set higher standards, don’t use Akufo-Addo as base standards for anything you do…”

He further asked them to exhibit humility in all their dealings with Ghanaians, otherwise they would be punished in the next election. The President expressed confidence in their abilities to deliver on their mandates, stressing the critical nature of their portfolios in driving national development.
