I am still running as Independent Candidate – Cynthia Morrison

Cynthia Morrison

The incumbent Member of Parliament for Agona West, Cynthia Morrison has denied media reports that she has rescinded her decision to contest the parliamentary election as an Independent Candidate. According to her, she is resolute in her decision. “I am still running as an Independent Candidate in the parliamentary election for Agona West Constituency,” she said on TV3 on October 22.

Madam Cynthia Morrison is among four Members of Parliament, three of who are New Patriotic Party (NPP) members, whose seats have been declared vacant by Speaker Alban Bagbin. The Speaker’s declaration follows the decision by the affected MPs to contest the December 7 election as Independent Candidates, contrary to the provisions of Article 97 (g)(h).

Earlier, some media reports claimed that after meetings with the leadership of the NPP in parliament, Madam Morrison had decided not to contest again. Madam Morrison said, “no such decision has been taken.” Asked what she is doing about the declaration of her seat vacant, the former Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection said, “The issue is being handled by my lawyers.”
