We’ll follow up on court ruling on Rastafarian boys dependent on lawful counsel – GES

The Deputy Director-General of the Ghana Education Service, Dr Kwabena Tandoh, says the Service won’t have difficulties executing the High Court’s organization to Achimota School to concede the two Rastafarian young men once its lawful counsels give the approval.

He said albeit the GES is yet to get a duplicate of the full judgment, it knows about a definitive judgment, and is prepared to go along if its lawful guides give the approval.

Talking on ‘The Point of View’ on Citi TV on Monday, Dr K.B. Tandoh said the GES is anticipating on its lawful guides, just as an exhortation from the Ministry of Education (MoE), in transit forward.

“As at now, that is the thing that the court administering is [to concede them], as we’ve heard it. When we get legitimate guidance, we will pass by whatever lawful counsel we get,” he said.

An Accra High Court on Monday, May 31, 2021, conveyed its decision in regards to the disavowal of two Rastafarian young men; Tyrone Marhguy and Oheneba Nkrabea admission to Achimota School since they neglected to cut their dreadlocks.

Equity Gifty Adjei Addo, the Presiding Judge couldn’t help contradicting the entries of the Attorney General and allowed every one of the reliefs independently looked for by the troubled understudies with the exception of the alleviation of remuneration on account of Tyrone Marhguy.

As per Justice Addo, it is outrageous for the Attorney General to have even recommended that the two were not understudies in any case.

Equity Gifty Adjei Addo thus guided Achimota School to concede the two Rastafarian understudies.

Dr. KB Tandoh of the GES expressed that the Service runs a non-oppressive and no demonization strategy, thus paying little heed to the result, each understudy will be protected to be in the school.

“We have not seen the judgment yet. It came simply on Monday evening and we might want to string warily… Once this comes in and we evaluate it, we will work with the Ministry of Education who will react in like manner,… Regardless of the result, whichever understudy enters our grounds won’t be oppressed,” he noted, adding that “if after the counsel as far as what the court controlling legitimately implies is to such an extent that we should execute the decision exactly, as GES, we will work with our instructors inside the bounds of the decision to ensure that it is appropriately carried out.”
