President-elect John Mahama endorses Alban Bagbin for Speaker of 9th Parliament

President-elect John Dramani Mahama has instructed the parliamentary leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to nominate the Right Honourable Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin as the Speaker of the 9th Parliament of Ghana’s Fourth Republic. This directive was issued in a press release signed by Mahama’s Special Aide, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, following consultations with the NDC’s National Executive and Parliamentary Leadership.

The President-elect highlighted Bagbin’s distinguished career in public service, including his roles as Member of Parliament for Nadowli, Minority Leader, Majority Leader, and Speaker of the 8th Parliament. Mahama also expressed confidence that Bagbin’s extensive experience would be critical in steering parliamentary affairs.

“Under his stewardship, Ghana’s Parliament will be further strengthened to deliver effectively on its oversight responsibilities,” the statement read. Bagbin is one of Ghana’s longest-serving parliamentarians.
