The opposition party, the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has expressed its support for calls to remove Jean Mensa, the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), along with her two deputies. They cite what they view as gross incompetence in managing the country’s electoral processes. This support follows an earlier demand from the National Chairman of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, who accused the EC leadership of being unfit for office and called for their immediate removal.
In a recent appearance on Joy FM’s PM Express, NPP General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong criticized the EC’s decision to hold a re-run of elections in 19 polling stations within the Ablekuma North Constituency. He described this move as unwarranted and indicative of the Commission’s failure.
Mr. Kodua argued that the results from just three outstanding polling stations were all that remained to determine the final outcome of the December 7 parliamentary elections in that constituency. According to him, the decision to call for a re-run under such circumstances reveals serious lapses in judgment and administrative competence.
“This is a clear case of incompetence,” he stated. “The NPP will support any legitimate demand for the removal of the EC Chair and her deputies. Their actions continue to undermine public trust in the electoral system.”
