Zoomlion cleans the streets of Accra in cooperation with Regional Minister Henry Kortey, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Nii Adjei Tawiah of the Korle Klottey municipality, and security personnel from the Immigration Service, Ghana Armed Forces, Ghana National Fire Service, Navy, and NADMO.
Korley Klottey Municipality, Ablekuma North Municipality Ablekuma Central, and Accra Metropolitan Assembly are three municipalities that benefited from the exercise (AMA).
Today’s exercise themed Let’s Make Accra Work, is aimed to make Accra the cleanest city in the nation.
National security staff decongest structures that do not have valid building permits, and any that do not wear a nose mask is given a broom to help clean up Accra’s streets.
Regional Minister Hon. Henry Quarteysaid that the country must be cleaned and kept close since Accra is the capital city where the majority of tourists visit.
He questioned the press on how they want the nation to look, and how Ghanaians queue for visas to fly to other countries because their country is so tidy and clean.
He also urged citizens to work together to clean up Ghana and keep it clean.
Nii Adjei Tawiah, regional minister and Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Korley Klottet Municipality, talked about people littering the streets.
He clarified that the new spaces would be used to plant flowers in order to keep people from sleeping and littering Accra’s streets.
Morgan Acquah, General Manager of Zoomlion Company Limited, said that it is not the duty of one person to keep an area or country clean; rather, everyone is involved.
He went on to say that this would help create a place for service providers to operate in an area to prevent people sleep on the streets and litter.
