The Government of Ghana has disbursed GH¢10.82 billion to bondholders under the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme (DDEP), according to a statement from the Ministry of Finance. The payment, amounting to GH¢10,816,840,318.26, brings cumulative disbursements to DDEP bondholders since 2025 to GH¢41.36 billion.
The Ministry noted that this marks the third coupon payment made entirely in cash, with the obligation honoured in full and on schedule. Officials said the move is expected to bolster investor confidence, lower Ghana’s sovereign default risk, and reinforce the country’s financial credibility.
The latest settlement follows Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson’s assurance during the 2026 Mid‑Year Budget Review that government would meet the coupon payment due on August 18. Dr. Forson described the payment as part of the government’s commitment to fulfilling obligations under the domestic debt restructuring programme. He previously confirmed that the first coupon payment of GH¢10.1 billion was successfully completed on February 17, 2026, also in full and on time.
The DDEP, introduced as part of Ghana’s efforts to restore debt sustainability, involved the restructuring of domestic bonds held by banks, pension funds, insurance companies, individual investors and other creditors.
The government has maintained that timely servicing of the restructured debt is critical to rebuilding investor confidence following the country’s debt crisis and supporting efforts to restore access to international capital markets.
Dr Forson also disclosed during the Mid-Year Budget Review that Ghana had paid $2.1 billion in principal and interest to Eurobond holders since January 2025, without putting undue pressure on the country’s foreign exchange reserves.
The Finance Minister said consistent repayment of debt obligations, rather than public assurances, would be key to restoring confidence in Ghana’s economy. The Ministry assured bondholders, investors and the public that all future DDEP obligations would be paid in full and on schedule.
