The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak (MP), has announced a revision of the curfew hours imposed on Bawku Municipality and its surrounding communities in the Upper East Region. Effective today, Thursday, July 31, 2025, the curfew will now be in effect from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. daily. This change, implemented under the authority of an Executive Instrument, follows recommendations from the National Security Council as part of ongoing efforts to stabilize the security situation in the area.
Additionally, a separate curfew directive remains in place for Nalerigu Township and nearby communities in the North East Region. This curfew, which began on Sunday, July 27, 2025, is enforced daily from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. until further notice, based on a recommendation by the North East Regional Security Council.
The Ministry has reiterated the government’s call for calm and cooperation, urging traditional leaders, youth, and residents to resolve grievances through dialogue and non-violent means. Authorities emphasized that peacebuilding efforts must be community-led and inclusive. In both Bawku and Nalerigu, a total ban remains in place on the possession of arms, ammunition, and offensive weapons.
Security agencies have been directed to arrest and prosecute anyone who violates this order. The government reaffirmed its commitment to restoring peace and stability in the affected areas and called on all stakeholders to support ongoing efforts to ensure law and order.
