Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has revealed that Foreign Direct Investment (FDIS) gave Ghana 2.65billion dollars in 2020.

This, he said, was despite the challenges faced by the country following the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic.

This figure, Mr Oppong Nkrumah said was a 140 per cent increment from the figure recorded in 2019. Speaking at a press conference in Accra on Sunday, April 18, he attributed this recorded to the prudent management of the economic space in the country.

The Ofoase Ayirebi lawmaker further said the growth in the FDI in Ghana is expected to translate into job creation for about 22,000

“The FDI value of 2.6 is about almost 140 per cent increase over the figure recorded in the year 2019.

“We believe it is because of the gradual improvement we continue to make in the economic space here in Ghana and despite the challenges that we have around in particular the challenges of the year 2020.”

He added “57 of them in manufacturing, 15 in export trade and the rest follow from there.”

The key thing that the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC) is doing is that all of these investments in terms of their equity composition…so that the jobs and opportunities associated with them can be fully realized by Ghanaians.

“It is estimated that a total of 27 000jobs expected to be generated from the 279 projects with operations at full capacity, about 22,000 of those jobs are expected to be for Ghanaians while about 1065 expected to be taken up by expatriates or non-Ghanaians.”
