The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has announced that, effective Monday, November 24, 2025, all recruitment centres in Accra will be temporarily closed, with the exception of the El-Wak Sports Stadium. This directive follows earlier interventions introduced to ease overcrowding after the stampede at El-Wak on Wednesday, November 12, 2025.
In the immediate aftermath of that incident, GAF established additional screening centres—two at Nicholson Park in Burma Camp, one at the Air Force Base in Burma Camp, two at the Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) in Teshie, and another at the Eastern Naval Command in Tema. However, in a public update shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday, November 23, GAF confirmed that all Accra centres, apart from El-Wak, will now be shut down.
The notice read: “GAF Recruitment Update: All recruitment centres in Accra for the 2025/2026 exercise, except El-Wak Sports Stadium, will be closed on Monday, 24 November 2025. All potential recruits yet to be screened should report to El-Wak Sports Stadium for the continuation of documentation and body selection.” The latest directive seeks to streamline the remaining stages of the recruitment process while improving crowd management and enhancing safety following the earlier incident.
