Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, Baba Jamal, will officially submit his nomination on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, to contest the Ayawaso East parliamentary by-election under the banner of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC). A former Member of Parliament for Akwatia, Mr. Jamal announced his decision to join the race following the sudden passing of Ayawaso East MP Mahama Naser Toure on January 4, 2026, after a brief illness.
Explaining his bid, Baba Jamal expressed optimism about his prospects, highlighting his deep-rooted connections with the constituency, which he believes will strengthen his campaign. “In the upcoming by-election, I will be seeking the mandate of the people of Ayawaso East to represent them in Parliament,” he affirmed
“My brothers and sisters, you are aware that I have been working with you on many fronts. This is the time we need to change the narrative and come together to give ourselves a different image,” he added. Baba Jamal said his decision to contest was driven by sacrifice and a strong belief in collective progress.
“I have sacrificed to contest this election because I believe that together, we can change the narrative,” he said. The Electoral Commission (EC) has set the by-election in the Ayawaso East Constituency on Tuesday, March 3, 2026.
