August 4 not a public holiday — Interior Ministry clarifies

The Ministry of the Interior has made it clear that Monday, August 4, 2025, will NOT be recognised as a public holiday. In a statement released on Thursday, January 31, 2025, the ministry, in accordance with the Public Holidays and Commemorative Days (Amendment) Act, 2025, reminded the public of the official list of statutory holidays for the year, as approved by the President.

This clarification comes in response to questions and speculation regarding whether August 4 — previously celebrated as Founders’ Day — would be recognised this year. According to the Ministry, only the holidays listed in the official 2025 calendar will be observed as public holidays. Since August 4 is not included in that list, the statement urged the general public, businesses, and institutions to take note and continue with regular activities on that date.
