The Ministry of Health has referred a case involving alleged medical misconduct at the Trauma and Specialist Hospital in Winneba, Central Region, to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and the Attorney General’s Department. This decision comes after an investigation by the Ghana Health Service (GHS) revealed serious misconduct by certain hospital officials in connection with the death of a patient who was transferred to Ojobi and subsequently abandoned until her passing.
In a statement issued by the Health Ministry on Wednesday, October 2, the GHS investigation concluded that the employees involved failed to act appropriately, contributing to the tragic outcome. The committee overseeing the inquiry recommended internal disciplinary actions against the staff involved. However, the Ministry of Health has opted for further investigations, citing the gravity of the incident and the resulting loss of life.
To ensure thorough accountability, the Ministry has requested the Attorney-General’s assistance in determining the culpability of the staff and pursuing any further legal action. Additionally, the matter has been reported to the CID for criminal investigation.
The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to upholding the highest standards of healthcare delivery, promising to prevent the recurrence of such tragic incidents in the future.
