Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has expressed his dissatisfaction with the performance of Black Stars coach Otto Addo. He cautioned that Ghana’s national team has significant work to do to secure qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the USA, Mexico, and Canada. His remarks add to the growing pressure on the Black Stars’ technical team to achieve consistent results and rebuild confidence in the squad ahead of key tournaments.
On Friday, September 5, the Black Stars were held to a 1-1 draw by Chad, followed by a narrow 1-0 victory over Mali on Monday, September 8. Despite the win, Mr. Adams insisted that the team’s performance remained unconvincing. Speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, he expressed concerns about Ghana’s inconsistent displays in the ongoing World Cup qualifiers.
“Very soon, AFCON is going to start in Morocco. Are we going to be part of it? No, we will be watching on TV. We haven’t even qualified for the World Cup yet. We still need a win and at least a draw to comfortably say that, in our group, nobody can overtake us,” he stated.
The Sports Minister stressed that Otto Addo’s performance does not warrant praise under the current circumstances. “If I tell you I am impressed, then it means I do not know my job. I am not. There is a lot of room for improvement. Even when you meet the coach himself, he admits that he got things wrong and takes responsibility. But the question is: for how long will you continue to take blame for wrong decisions?” he asked.
